Success in Eternity

Seeking the Divine Truth in Less Than ½ Hr

Last week I gave a talk on authentication of the alleged divine books and the talk is on YouTube now.  In that talk, I said that every group who follows what they claim is a divine book consider that they are the only ones who will go to heaven and others who follow other books will go to Hell.  This means that ensuring that one follows the real divine book is so critical because the consequence of following the wrong one is extremely high.

In the same talk, I stated that the first step in validating whether the book one follows is the proper one is to at least do the same as one does when selecting a book to study for important exam and this is to examine the subject of the book, the author of the book, the qualification of the author, the publisher, and the version.

Then I proposed that for validating the divinity of any supposedly revealed book, one should, as a minimum, be able to assess the relevance of its content, the reliability of its authorship and the authenticity of its text by validating 6 issues that are associated with the following six questions:

  1. The purpose of the Book. (Does the book define its purpose?)
  2. The author of the Book (Does the book claim that its content was revealed by God?)
  3. The narrator of the Book (Does the book claim that it presents the revelations to a specific Messenger?)
  4. The reliability of the narrator (Is that person, considered as the Messenger, well-known for his wisdom, reliability, and truthfulness?)
  5. The publisher of the book (Is the person (s) who was responsible for the documentation of the revelation well-known for his wisdom, reliability, and truthfulness?
  6. The authenticity of the version (Is the version we have now an exact original?)

During the follow-up discussion, the issue was raised regarding whether if we were born to Hindu, Jewish or Christian families would we really have examined the divinity of our book and the books claimed to be divine by others to ensure that we follow the correct divine book.

In trying to address this question, I felt that it is very unlikely that most people will be spending time to study these books to assess which one is truly the divine one.  Therefore, is there a way that one can only spend ½ hr to study the key alleged divine books to at least assess whether there any of them deserves additional study to compare with his own.   Any person who is not willing to at least spend 30 minutes to make the evaluation is not serious about religion and his belief in eternal heaven and Hell is very doubtful.

So, how can ½ hr study makes you assess which of the four main alleged divine books is the proper one.  The four alleged divine books are those followed by Hindus, Jews, Christians, and Muslims.    These books are the Veda, the old Testament, the new Testament, and the Quran.   You may wonder, how can only ½ hr makes me assess these four books.   The answer comes from the practice that most people do when they go to a bookstore to select a book from among many to study on an important subject.  The general practice is to read the first page of each book and possibly the last page to narrow the choice dramatically.   Then you may look at a specific topic in the chosen books to narrow the selection even further

This is what I am proposing here, it is to read the first and last pages of all the alleged divine book to assess whether any on them can really be considered as guidance from God to mankind that will be worth studying further.  How long would it take to read the first and last pages of the 4 key books:  the Veda, the old Testament, the new Testament, and the Quran?  It will take less than ½ hr and this can be done without even leaving your home because all of them are accessible in the internet.

I have gone thru this activity with open mind to identity the book or possible two to study further.   Here is the first page of the four of them, let us read it and you can decide for your own self which one is the mostly likely truly divine.

1 I Laud Agni, the chosen Priest, God, minister of sacrifice,

The hotar, lavishest of wealth.

2 Worthy is Agni to be praised by living as by ancient seers. He shall bring hitherward the Gods.

3 Through Agni man obtaineth wealth, yea, plenty waxing day by day,  Most rich in heroes,  glorious.

4 Agni, the perfect sacrifice which thou encompassest about

Verily goeth to the Gods.

5 May Agni, sapient-minded Priest, truthful, most gloriously great, The God, come hither with the Gods.

6 Whatever blessing, Agni, thou wilt grant unto thy worshipper,

That, Aṅgiras, is indeed thy truth.

7 To thee, dispeller of the night, O Agni, day by day with prayer

Bringing thee reverence, we come

8 Ruler of sacrifices, guard of Law eternal, radiant One,

Increasing in thine own abode.

9 Be to us easy of approach, even as a father to his son: Agni, be with us for our weal.

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

1. VENOMOUS, slightly venomous, or venomous aquatic worm,—  Both creatures, stinging, unobserved, with poison have infected me.

2 Coming, it kills the unobserved; it kills them as it goes away,

It kills them as it drives them off, and bruising bruises them to death.

3 Sara grass, Darbha, Kuśara, and Sairya, Muñja, Vīraṇa,

Where all these creatures dwell unseen, with poison have infected me.

4 The cows had settled in their stalls, the beasts of prey had sought their lairs,

Extinguished were the lights of men, when things unseen infected me.

5 Or these, these reptiles, are observed, like lurking thieves at evening time.

Seers of all, themselves unseen: be therefore very vigilant.

6 Heaven is your Sire, your Mother Earth, Soma your Brother, Aditi Your Sister: seeing all, unseen, keep still and dwell ye happily.

1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:

6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.

7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

1. Say, “He is God, the One.

2. God, the Absolute.

3. He begets not, nor was He begotten.

4. And there is none comparable to Him.”

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

1. Say, “I take refuge with the Lord of Daybreak.

2. From the evil of what He created.

3. And from the evil of the darkness as it gathers.

4. And from the evil of those who practice sorcery.

5. And from the evil of an envious when he envies.”

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

1. Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.

2. The King of mankind.

3. The God of mankind.

4. From the evil of the sneaky whisperer.

5. Who whispers into the hearts of people.

If you are selecting only one book to read further, any open-minded person will select the Quran to study.  And if you are curious, the first and last pages of the old testament suggest that it may have some information that may be divinely revealed, and it will be worth investigating further.

To minimize the time, I decided to pick two issues to search for to make the final decision.   The first issue is Satan because Jews, Christians and Muslims believe that Satan is evil and is rejected by God.  So, I searched in the Old Testament for the first time Satan is mentioned to assess whether it makes sense.  The first time Satan is mentioned was in the book of Job (سفر أيوب).  Some may say the Satan was figuratively mentioned in Genesis as serpent, but I was looking for the term Satan.   I am presenting both the Arabic and the English translations because Arabic is more related to the original language than the English translation.  I’ll read few lines in Arabic because you need to note that the name Allah which is translated in English as God is used in the Arabic text and also the term Shaytan which is translated as Satan is used.

Job 2 (English Standard Version)

1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord.

2 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”

3 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.”

4 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life.

5 But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.”

6 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.”

These verses cannot be from God because it appears to be intended to show that Satan have influence on God and God is using Satan to hurt the righteous people and this cannot be true.  I’ll leave it to you to speculate who is most likely source for this account.

When I go to the Quran to what it says about Satan, I note that it says that Satan is cursed by God and that he is weak and cannot have influence on the righteous servants of Allah and his influence is only on the wicked. it. Let us look at verses from Surat Al-Hijr; the Quran says:

“Recall when your Lord said to the angels: “ I am creating a human being from a ringing clay made of decayed mud, (28) So, when I form him and blow in him from my spirit, you fall down before him in prostration. (29) So the angels prostrated, all of them together (30) Except Iblis (Satan). He refused to be among those who prostrates. (31) He (Allah) said: O Iblis! What is the matter with you that you were not among those who prostrated? (32)

He (Iblis) said: I am not going to prostrate myself before a mortal whom You created a ringing clay made of decayed mud, (33)

He said: Then get out of here, for you are an outcast. (34) And upon you is the curse up to the Day of Judgment. (35)

He said: My Lord! Give me respite till the day they shall be raised. (36) He said: Then lo! Respite is given to you (37) Till the day of the appointed time. (38) He said: My Lord! Because You has sent me astray, I swear that I shall beatify for them in the earth the path of error, and shall mislead them everyone, (39) Except those of Your servant of them who are Your perfectly devoted slaves. (40) He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me:

 (41) Indeed, as for My slaves, you have  no power over any of them except those who deviant and will follow you (42) And Hell is a promised place for them all.” (Al-Hijr 15:29-43)

Since I became convinced that the account of Satan in the Old Testament cannot be from God, I decided to loot at another subject and this is related to wars to see what the Old testament commands to the righteous when fighting the disbelievers. Let us read only one quote form the old testament for the first book of Samuel:

1 Samuel 15 (English Standard Version)

15 And Samuel said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king over his people Israel; now therefore listen to the words of the Lord.

2 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt.

3 Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction[a] all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

I felt that the command to kill women, children. infants and animals is difficult to rationalize that it is from God.    So, I looked at the command in the Quran and it says:

“Fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not transgress, surely Allah (God) does not love the transgressors.” (Al-Baqara 2:190)

Then I looked at the restriction that imposed by the Prophet (PBUH) on the Muslim army: the Prophet (PBUH) said:

“Set out in the name of Allah and for the sake of Allah. Do not kill the old, the children the women, and those in the places of worship. Do not betray, do not steal and do not mutilate bodies.  And assemble all that falls to you in the battlefield and do good, for Allah loves the virtuous and the pious.”

The last point that I’ll conclude with in this assessment is to evaluate whether there is something in the Old Testament prophecies about the upcoming of prophet Mohammad that was identified by the Jewish scholars who accepted Islam during the life of the Prophet (PBUH), since the Quran clearly asserts that the information about the Prophet (PBUH) is written in both the Torah and the Gospel.

There is hadeath reported in Bukhari about what Abdullah ibn Salaam (عبد اللد ابن سلام), one of the Jewish scholars who accepted Islam said about a prophecy in the Old Testament.  This refrnece is related by Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-As (عبد الله بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ) when he was asked whether the attribute of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) is given in the Torah: He said yes, it is reported in the Torah that he (PBUH) is:

A witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner, and as a protector for the illiterates (i.e., the Arabs.) You are my slave and My Apostle, and I have named you Al-Mutawakkil (one who depends upon Allah). You are neither hard-hearted nor of fierce character, nor one who shouts in the markets. You do not return evil for evil, but excuse and forgive. Allah will not take you unto Him till He guides through you a crocked (curved) nation on the right path by causing them to say: “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.” With such a statement He will cause to open blind eyes, deaf ears and hardened hearts.’

Then when we examine the book of Isaiah 42 (سفر إشعياء 42) in the Old Testament, we read the following.

1 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.

2 He will not shout or cry out or raise his voice in the streets.

3 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice.

4   He will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”

5 This is what God the Lord says—the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:

6 “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness.  I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles,

7 to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

8 “I am the Lord; that is my name!  I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.

9 See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being, I announce them to you.”

10 Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them.

11 Let the wilderness and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements where Kedar lives rejoice. Let the people of Sela sing for joy; let them shout from the mountaintops.

12 Let them give glory to the Lord and proclaim his praise in the islands.

13 The Lord will march out like a champion, like a warrior he will stir up his zeal; with a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.

14 “For a long time I have kept silent, I have been quiet and held myself back. But now, like a woman in childbirth, I cry out, I gasp and pant.

If you ask a Christian about this account, he will say that it is prophesy about Jesus (PBUH).  But this can be easily refuted because many of the descriptions in these verses cannot be applied to Jesus and can only be applied to prophet Mohammad (PBUH) but to settle any argument, we can only focus on two terms in verse 11 and these are Kedar and Sela.

  1. “Let the wilderness and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements where Kedar lives rejoice. Let the people of Sela sing for joy; let them shout from the mountaintops.

Sela (سالع) is a mountain in Medina in Saudi Arabia. It is in the “District of the Seven Mosques” in city of Medina Municipality in Saudi Arabia. Sela means “sliced” because the mountain looks as if it is sliced several times. (this is why the Jews immigrated from Syria to Madina to be there when this Prophet comes)

Kedar: In the son of Ishmael, the great grandfather of the tribes in Mecca.

Genesis 25: 13 “These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, 15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah”.

Obviously, Prophet Jesus has nothing to do with Madina or Mecca.  Only Prophet Mohammad is the one linked o them.

Deuteronomy 18

18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.

20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”

21 You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?”

22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.

Hebrews 7  New International Version

7 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” 3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

(18) And (so did) the birds assembled: all obedient to him (19) We made his kingdom strong and gave him wisdom and decisive speech.” (Sad 38:26)
