Allah’ Name Al-Haqq (الحَقِّ), The Truth

This name of Allah, Al-Haqq (The Truth) is mentioned in the Quran 10 times.  The word truth is the opposite of falsehood.  Allah says:

That is because Allah, He is the Truth, and that whatever they involve beside Him is the false, and that Allah, He is the High, the Great.” (Al-Hajj 22:62)

Al-Haqq (The Truth) is the name of Allah that means Allah is the ultimate reality.  Allah Al-Haqq means that His presence is a reality standing on its own merits, and the presence of anything/anyone else is only possible through Him.

Al-Haqq also means that Allah’s actions are true/real and not an imagination in someone’s mind.  He gives everything what it truly needs.  Allah, the Truth, permits the truth to manifest itself and He creates everything as His wisdom dictates. Everything that exists is created by Him, and to Him is its ultimate end.

This name of Allah, Al-Haqq is always associated with majestic things.

“He is Dominant over His slaves. He sends guardians over you until, when death comes unto one of you, Our messengers takes his soul and they neglect nothing (from their duties). (61) Then all of them will be returned to Allah, their Lord, the Truth. Undoubtedly, His is the judgement, and He is the swiftest of those who take account.” (Al-Anaam 6:61-62)

“On the day when We gather them all together, then We say to those who ascribed partners with Allah: Wait in your place, you and your partners! Then, We will separate them, and their partners will say: It was not us that you worshipped. (28) Allah suffices as a witness between us and you, that we were totally unaware of your worship. (29) There, everyone will know what one had earned before, and they will be brought back to Allah, their Lord, the Truth, and whatever they used to invent (as partners with Allah) will vanish from them.” (Yunus 10:28-30)

Say: Who provides you sustenance from the heaven and the earth, or Who controls (the power of) hearing and seeing; and Who brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living; and Who regulates everything? They will say: Allah. Then (you) say: Will you not then fear Him? (31) Such is Allah, your Lord, the Truth.  What is there after the truth but the error? To where then, are you turning away! (Yunus 10:31-32)

“There were no supporters to help him against Allah, nor was he able to defend himself. (43) There, the (only) protection comes from Allah, the Truth. He is the best in rewarding and the best to in requitting.” (Al-Kahf 18:43-44)

“High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth! Do not hasten with the (recitation of) Quran before its revelation to you is concluded, but say “O my Lord! increase me in knowledge.” (Taha 20:114)

“Indeed, Allah is the Truth, and He gives life to the dead, and He has power over all things.” (Al-Hajj 22:6)

That is because Allah merges the night into the day and merges the day into the night, and that Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (61) That is because Allah, He is the Truth, and that whatever they invoke beside Him is the false, and that Allah, He is the High, the Great.” (Al-Hajj 22:61-62)

“Did you think that We created you for nothing, and that you will not be brought back to US? (115) High above all is Allah, the King, the Truth. There is no god but He, the Lord of the Noble Throne.” (Al-Mumenoon 23:115-116)

“On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do. (24) On that Day Allah will pay them their just dues, and they will know that Allah is the Manifest Truth.” (Al-Noor 24:24-25)

“Do you not see that Allah merges the night into the day and merges the day into the night, and He has subjugated the sun and the moon, each running its course for an appointed time, and that Allah is fully aware of all that you do? (61) That is because Allah, He is the Truth, and that whatever they invoke beside Him is the false, and that Allah, He is the High, the Great.” (Luqman 31:29:30)

In addition, many Ayat make it clear that the name of Allah “Al-Haqq” is manifested in His words and actions. Allah says:

“He is the One who made the sun a glow and the moon a light, and determined their stages, so that you know the number of years and the calculation (of time). Allah had not created all this but in truth.” (Yunus 10:5)

“We did not create the heavens, the earth, and all between them for mere play. (38) We did not create them but with truth.” (Al-Dukhan 44:38-39)

Have you not seen that Allah has created the heavens and the earth with truth?” (Ibrahim 14:19)

“And Allah will establish the truth by His words. Even if the sinners hate it.” (Yunus 10:82)

And Allah wipes out falsehood and establishes the truth by His Words.” (Al-Shura 42:24)

“And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord, and the book (of everyone’s deeds) will be placed, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and matters will be decided between them in truth, and they will not be wronged.” (Al-Zumur 39:69)

“Allah judges with truth, while those to whom they invoke beside Him cannot judge anything.” (Ghafer 40:20)

The Prophet (PBUH) used Allah’s name Al-Haqq in his supplication when he would wake up during the night for night prayers, he (PBUH) would say:

ا

” O Allah, all Praise is due to You! You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and everything in them! All Praise is due to You! You are the sustainer of the heavens and the earth and everything in them! You are the Truth. Your speech is the truth.  Your promise is the truth. Meeting with You is the truth.  Paradise is the truth.  Hell is the truth. The Hour [of Judgment] is the truth. O Allah, to You I have submitted myself. In You I have believed. On You I have relied. To You I have returned. For Your sake I have disputed with others. Based on Your truth I have arbitrated. O Allah forgive whatever I have done in the past and will do in the future, and what I have concealed and what I have revealed.  You are my Lord! There is no god but You!” (Bukhari)

We should not only be aware of Allah, Al Haqq, in our worship but we should also maintain this attribute “The Truth” in all our words and actions. We should let the Truth be part of our lives by always being truthful and calling each other towards the truth to ensure that we do not become among the losers:

Indeed, mankind is in loss, except for those who believe, do good deeds, urge one another to the truth, and urge one another to steadfastness.” (Al-Asr 103:2-3)

Allah praises the nation that always implement the truth to ensure justice:

“And among those whom We created there is a nation that guides with the truth and establish justice therewith.” (Al-Araf 7:181)

“We sent down to you the Book with the truth, confirming the book before it, and a dominant over it.  So, judge between them according to what Allah has sent down to you and do not follow their desires away from the truth that has come to you.” (Al-Maeda 5:48)

We can maintain our remembrance of Allah Al-Haqq by maintaining the truth in our lives by giving everyone his/her rights without excess or neglect.

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH)) said:

“The right of Allah upon His servants is that they should worship Him alone and ascribe no partners with Him. And the right of the servants upon Allah is that He should not punish those who do not associate any partners with Him. “

Elements to Adopt in our Character.

  1. We should maintain unshakable belief that Allah’s attributes, revelations, and promises are the absolute Truth.
  2. We should reflect on Allah’s attribute, the Truth, by striving to always be truthful in all our affairs even when the truth is difficult to bear, and we should not be among those who hate the truth or conceal it. Allah says:

“Indeed, We brought the Truth to you, but it is the truth that most of you detest.” (Al-Zukhruf 43:78)

“When Allah took a pledge from those who were given the book to make it known to people, and not to conceal it.” (Al-E-Imran 3:187

  1. We should always say, stand for and seek the truth to ensure that justice prevails. Allah commands:

“O you who believe, stand firm, all the time for justice bearing true witness for the sake of Allah even if it is against yourselves, or your parents, or your nearest relatives regardless of whether one party is rich and the other is poor for Allah can best protect both.  Do not follow your whim (the lust of your heart) such that you swerve or distort testimony or turn away from the truth.  Indeed, Allah is all aware of all that you do.” (Al-Nisa 4:135)

“O you who believe stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses for justice, and do not let the hatred of some people induce you to deviate from justice. Be just: that is next to Taqwa (Piety): and Have Taqwa of Allah.  For Allah is well-aware of all that you do” (Al-Maeda 5:8)

Truth is the key to justice and Allah will always expose the truth whether in this life or in the day of Judgement. To illustrate the criticality of truth, Allah sent revelations to vindicate a Jew who was going to be subjected to injustice based on false testimony.    A Muslim stole a shield and to avoid being caught with the shield, he gave to a Jew to keep it for him.  The owner of the shield discovered the theft, and the shield was found at the Jew’s house.  The Jew claimed his innocence and said that the Muslim gave it to him, and the Muslin denied.  The Prophet (PBUH) was on the verge of declaring the guilt of the Jew based on the facts in front of him.  But Allah did not want injustice to be committed against the Jew, and a verse was revealed:

“Indeed, We have sent down the Book to you with the truth to judge between people by what Allah has shown you. So do not be advocate for those who betray their trust” (Al-Nisa 4: 105)

Justice is so important that Allah revealed a verse to ensure that injustice was not committed even against a non-believer.  Muslims should know that only through the truth (al-haqq) justice can prevail in the world.

  1. We should know that all what Allah says in the Quran regarding His rules, the fate of the religion of Islam, and His promises to the believers are not something to comfort the believers, but they are the truth that will surely be fulfilled. Allah says:

“Surely, Allah does not change the condition of a people unless they change themselves (” (Al-Rad 13:11)

“They wish to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths. But Allah will bring His Light to perfection even though the disbelievers hate (it). (8) He is the One who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He makes it prevail over all (other) religions even though the disbelievers dislike it.” (Al-Saff 61:8-9)

“And when My servants ask you about Me.  I am indeed near.  I respond to the supplication of the supplicant when he calls on Me” (Al-Baqara 2:196)

“And in Heaven is your fortunes and whatever you have been promised. (22) By the Lord of the heaven and the earth, this is the truth, as sure as the fact that you can speak.” (Al-Zariyat 51:22-23)

We should know that Allah guaranteed our individual fortunes in this life.  While we are requested to compete to create our fortunes, this competition must be based on the truth and justice. We should know that none of us will leave this life without having fully used all his/her divinely prescribed fortune.

Note that your fortune in life is not what you earn but what you consume and personally use. Any extras that you earn will be fortunes for others.  The Prophet (PBUH) said:

“No soul will die until it has received all its provision, even if it is slow in coming. So, fear Allah and be moderate in seeking provision; take that which is permissible and leave that which is forbidden.” [Sunan Ibn Majah])

While most people may consider their fortune in life merely their financial resources, it goes far beyond that.  Your fortune is anything that you personally benefit from and bring enjoyment to you.  This includes money, health, relationships, peace of mind, etc,
